Low-Iron Glass for Building Projects

EVERMADE GLASS supplies processed glass for architectural projects, including low-iron tempered glass. For a low-iron glass enquiry, send the intended application, appearance requirements, proposed build-up, panel sizes, quantity and destination. We review the material and fabrication requirements together.

Specify the Base Glass, Then the Processing

Low-iron glass is selected for reduced green tint and a more neutral appearance compared with standard clear glass. The material choice and the glass treatment are separate parts of the specification: low-iron glass is not another name for tempered glass.

Describe both the required base glass and the finished construction. A request for low-iron tempered glass, for example, identifies a material preference as well as a heat treatment.

Review Tempered Glass Fabrication

Make Appearance Requirements Clear

For architectural glazing where colour and transparency matter, describe the intended viewing conditions and any reference sample used by the project team. State the proposed thickness, whether edges remain visible, and any coatings, interlayers or adjacent materials that affect the finished appearance.

Names such as extra-clear or ultra-clear are not a complete purchase specification. Identify the proposed substrate and any named product requirement, then confirm the relevant product data and how appearance will be reviewed. A photograph on a screen is not a substitute for agreed visual acceptance criteria.

Low-Iron, Tempered and Low-E Describe Different Choices

Low-iron concerns the base glass and its appearance. Tempering concerns heat treatment. Low-E concerns a coating. Specify each requirement separately rather than using one term to stand for the others.

If thermal, solar or acoustic performance is required, include the project targets and documentation for the proposed finished build-up. Do not infer those properties from the low-iron description alone.

Describe the Finished Glass Configuration

Include the relevant details for the construction specified by your project. Available combinations and fabrication details are reviewed against the drawings and required documentation.

  • Tempered panels: base glass, thickness, finished sizes, edge finish, holes and cut-outs.
  • Laminated glass: thickness and treatment of each glass layer, which layers are specified as low-iron, and the interlayer requirement.
  • Insulated glass units: the panes specified as low-iron, outside-to-inside build-up, coatings and their surfaces, cavities and overall unit size.
  • Curved glass: the available geometry drawing, identified radius or diameter, arc or chord dimensions and finished construction.

Supply Reference: 15 mm Low-Iron Tempered Glass for the UAE

EVERMADE GLASS supplied 15 mm low-iron tempered glass to a building contractor for residential fencing in the United Arab Emirates. The existing tempered glass page records this supply reference.

For another project, the required glass construction, fixing details and project specification need their own review. This reference does not establish a standard thickness or approved fencing system for other projects.

Prepare a Low-Iron Glass Supply Enquiry

Send the information you have and mark anything still to be confirmed. Include the application, proposed substrate or appearance requirement, thickness and build-up, drawing revision, panel sizes and units, quantities, fabrication details and destination.

List the required acceptance documents and inspection arrangements. For appearance-sensitive work, identify the reference sample or mock-up requirements so the proposed material and visual criteria can be discussed before order confirmation.

  • State low-iron as the material requirement; add the intended treatment and full build-up.
  • Give quantities by size or panel type rather than only a total area.
  • Include the delivery country and city or port, requested date and any specified documentation.

Project questions

Is low-iron glass the same as tempered glass?

No. Low-iron identifies the base glass, while tempered identifies a heat treatment. A finished panel can be both low-iron and tempered. State both requirements in the enquiry.

Is low-iron glass the same as Low-E glass?

No. Low-iron describes the base glass; Low-E refers to a coating. If both are required, provide the proposed construction and coating requirement for review.

Can I specify low-iron glass in a laminated or insulated build-up?

Include the full proposed construction and identify which glass layers are required to be low-iron. The material, processing and requested documents are reviewed for the proposed order.

Does the UAE reference determine the glass for my project?

No. It is a supply reference for one project. Your project drawings, fixing details, specification and required documents determine what needs to be reviewed for your order.

Have a glass schedule or drawing?

Send the information you have. Include the glass type, approximate quantity and destination. We can clarify the remaining details with you.
