Spandrel Glass for Non-Vision Façade Areas

Prepare a spandrel glass supply enquiry for the opaque areas of your building façade. EVERMADE GLASS can review the panel schedule, proposed glass construction, appearance references and project requirements. Include the adjacent vision glass and backing details where they affect the specification.

Identify the Non-Vision Areas in the Façade Schedule

Spandrel glass is used in non-vision façade areas to obscure building elements behind the glazing. It is a different procurement task from transparent vision glass, even where both form part of the same elevation.

Mark the relevant zones and panel numbers on the elevation. State whether the desired appearance should coordinate with adjacent vision glass or create a contrast. This page concerns the glass supply package; framing, insulation, fire-stopping and installation belong to the wider façade scope.

Define How the Opaque Appearance Is Specified

Include the specified opacifying finish or the project specification that defines it. Ceramic frit and other opacifying coatings are different routes; they should not be treated as interchangeable without review.

If ceramic frit is specifically required, identify the finish and colour reference. If the project uses a shadow-box arrangement, provide the full section and clarify which glass items are being requested. Do not treat the complete backing assembly as an unspecified part of a glass quotation.

Assess Appearance With the Adjacent Vision Glass

An opaque panel and a transparent vision panel do not necessarily look the same, even with a shared colour reference. Assess the proposed combination in representative lighting, with the intended background and viewing direction.

Provide the vision glass description, desired visual relationship and any required sample or mock-up process. Agreement should concern the proposed constructions and assessment conditions, rather than a promise of an identical appearance in every light.

Review the Glass Construction and Backing Conditions

Show the glass layers, specified heat treatment, coating locations and any cavity or interlayer in the proposed build-up. Add the relevant backing, insulation and assembly details so the project team and proposed supply parties can review the requirements.

Thermal conditions, material compatibility and required documentation need attention for the actual construction. A glass report does not establish the fire, thermal or structural performance of the whole façade assembly. Do not select a generic thickness or treatment from the word “spandrel” alone.

Keep the Panel and Approval Records Together

Link panel marks to the drawing revision, finish reference, dimensions and quantities. Note any different elevations, batches or delivery phases that need separate identification.

Where inspection or appearance approval is required, define the agreed reference and documents for the proposed glass order. Inspection records can be provided and third-party inspection can be coordinated; confirm the scope for the order. Packing and delivery requirements should follow the panel schedule and destination.

Send the Spandrel Glass Package for Quotation

Send the elevation or panel schedule, specified opaque finish, full glass build-up, panel sizes and quantities. Include the adjacent vision glass reference, relevant backing section, required documents, destination and requested delivery date.

Use the form for the project summary and email drawings to info@evermadeglass.com. If the proposed finish or construction is undecided, identify the open item for review. Once the required information is complete, formal quotations are normally prepared within 1–3 working days; complex projects may need additional review.

Project questions

Is spandrel glass the same as interior back-painted glass?

Not necessarily. A spandrel enquiry must address the specified non-vision façade use, glass construction, finish and backing conditions. A generic interior decorative glass description does not establish suitability for that application.

Will the spandrel exactly match the vision glass?

An exact match is not assumed. Provide both constructions and the desired appearance, then define the required representative sample or mock-up review with the project team.

Can the enquiry include insulated spandrel glass?

Yes. Submit the specified pane and cavity construction, coating positions and related backing details for review. Availability and compatibility of the proposed combination need confirmation before an order commitment.

Does this enquiry include the complete wall system or installation?

The enquiry concerns glass supply. List any associated components separately to clarify the proposed scope. Complete façade engineering, installation and repair are outside this glass supply enquiry.

Have a glass schedule or drawing?

Send the information you have. Include the glass type, approximate quantity and destination. We can clarify the remaining details with you.
