Double-Curved, Multi-Curved or Multi-Radius?

Double-curved glass, also described as compound-curved or doubly curved glass, has curvature in two directions. A cylindrical single-curved panel has curvature in one direction. Multi-curved is a broader description used for complex shapes, so the term alone does not define a panel for manufacture.

Multi-radius can describe changing radii within a single profile. It does not necessarily mean a two-directional surface. Send the model and dimensioned sections so the intended shape is clear; a product name or photograph is not enough to specify it.

Start with the Surface and Panel Boundaries

Provide the available 3D surface model together with dimensioned sections and a panel layout. Identify drawing revisions, units, the reference face, glass thickness and panel edge boundaries. Include both principal directions of curvature where defined, and show how neighbouring panels align.

List overall panel dimensions, edge lengths, rise or sag measurements, support points, holes and cut-outs. Mark any dimensions still awaiting site review. We clarify the geometry and available file format before the fabrication schedule is agreed.

Select the Glass Construction with the Geometry

Specify whether the requirement is for a monolithic panel, laminated glass or an insulated unit incorporating curved panes. For laminated glass, identify every ply and interlayer. For an IGU, include the cavity, gas fill, coating and edge-seal requirements.

Heat treatment, lamination, coating compatibility, dimensional accuracy and visual acceptance are reviewed for the complete proposed construction. A dimension achieved in a single-radius reference does not establish the limits of a double-curved panel. Available complex forms are assessed against your drawings rather than a universal minimum-radius promise.

Workshop Reference: A Double-Curved Panel

The supplied workshop photograph shows a double-curved glass panel on its handling frame. It demonstrates a recorded complex form. For a similar order, send your surface model, construction and panel schedule so the dimensions and manufacturing requirements can be assessed.

Australia Dome Glazing Reference

The Australian project reference includes fabrication and project photographs, plus a configuration-specific thermal and optical calculation. Its glass package uses SGP-laminated panes, a 20 mm argon cavity and a low-iron double-silver Low-E ply. The project record gives the reported values and their calculation basis; they are not a universal specification for another dome.

Agree Appearance, Fit and Inspection Requirements

Define the dimensional and visual acceptance criteria before production. Include reference sections, support interfaces, edge alignment and viewing requirements. Identify any sample, first-panel check or third-party inspection required for project approval.

Photographed dimensional checks illustrate our review process. Signed inspection records and any required performance documents are agreed for the specified order. Optical appearance and fit must be assessed against the approved geometry and project acceptance method.

Prepare a Double-Curved Glass RFQ

Send the project use, 3D geometry, proposed glass build-up, quantities by panel mark and destination. Include the required approval documents and desired project date. If the design is still developing, identify the open items so the next review can focus on them.

Our scope is glass supply. The responsible project team specifies the supporting structure, fixing system and installation. Production timing depends on the approved geometry, construction and quantity; complex projects need their own confirmed schedule.

Discuss double-curved glass supply

Before you enquire

Project questions.

Is double-curved glass the same as double glazing?

No. Double-curved describes the panel geometry. Double glazing describes an insulated unit with two glazing panes and a cavity. A curved panel may also form part of an insulated unit, subject to the complete construction being reviewed.

Can you quote from a rendering alone?

A rendering can explain the design. Manufacturing review also needs the surface geometry, panel boundaries, dimensioned sections, construction and quantity. Send what is available and identify missing details.

Are the dome calculation values applicable to every curved unit?

No. They relate to the stated glass construction and calculation conditions. A different coating, cavity, geometry or installed assembly needs its own assessment.
